In our analysis, the main objective is to find the maximum stress region and compare them to the yield strength of the material to see whether material will ultimately fail under mac conditions. Using CREO PARAMETRIC 3.0, we will ran different analysis including; static, fatigue, and optimization studies. From the results we obtain plots and graphs will be generated that will illustrate the different stresses acting on the control and will help us conclude which material is more cost effective and reliable for our design.
By reducing the overall initial weight of previous design, the team was able to save close to 40% of the overall cost per unit for each material. However, because the race-car teams are required to meet a budget for the overall suspension, the team was able to go with the much affordable design without exceeding allowable stresses. Ultimately, fundamental element analysis was able to facilitate an ease to material and design selection by designing for yield strength and endurance strength (10e6 cycles) with a factor of safety of 2. |
